Bonnie Barnett May 2, 1947 Chicago

My very first participant action at the New Music Americas was during the 1985 Auto Hum, a special adaptation of Bonnie Barnett’s Tunnel Hum made to include the traffic surrounding the KPFK Pacifica Radio studio. It being Los Angeles, you could say it was hundreds of miles of forever moving traffic. We gathered at the radio station to participate in a live broadcast - it may have been here where I met Don Wherry - and if the station’s archives have survived, maybe there might be a copy of that performance… Bonnie now monthly curates a program on another Los Angeles station, KXLU, and more about that below.
