SO FOUR YEARS AFTER the frenzy of speed handwriting of October 1990, fresh off getting a $12,000 writer’s grant to prepare a book about the New Music America festival, I brought my new second hand first generation Macbook to Victoriaville for a true avant-garde festival in a small town 150 miles away from Montréal (and four years safely with the last New Music America threats behind them).
Here in 1990 I met Jon Rose but only briefly as he had been in a band situation and I only had a few minutes to say hello. But this time, with the large arena setting permitting me to set up my computer at the back of the room (and still hear clearly), I wanted to pay him a treat and attempt to write a description of his performance.
