I’ll admit that I didn’t even notice the name of Richard Maxfield during the Les Loges series in Montréal, the only time his work got presented at the NMAs. That changed when I transcribed one of the 1982 NMA Chicago radio programs - Charles Amirkhanian had created a few “mini-documentary” inserts since the five nights of broadcasts were carried live (to some NPR stations) across the country and of course, there needed to be bridges between acts at the Navy Pier.
I’m not sure what Joan La Barbara said in her probably-Charles-wrote-it introduction about Maxfield being “part of our continuing history of New Music America”…
